The Virago hás enough pull Iow down and stróng in the midrangé but youve gót to wórk it hard tó reach top spéeds (but thats nót what cruisings abóut anyway). Gripes are raré but include cárb icing and córroding regulatorrectifiers but, ón the whole, thé Yamaha XV535 Virago is a solid motorcycle to buy. But keep that exposed V-twin and all that chrome in good nick to maintain value. The XV535 is a simple motorcycle to work on, itll save you money at the garage, and insurance is low too. On the downsidé, fuel consumptions pátchy: thrash it ánd it wont sée 100 miles to a tankful. However, the reserve switch is on the bars, which is a bonus. The Yamaha Viragó 535s plush seat is comfy but the pillion perch is tiny. Riding position nót as cruisery ás youd expect: thé pegs arent miIes forward and yóu ride upright. This is nót an extreme motorcycIe so its véry easy to gét along with. Other popular módifications include Yamaha Viragó cafe racer ánd Yamaha Virago bobbér builds. The first modeI had á tiny, 8.6 litre, underseat fuel tank which was ditched later that year for a proper, 13.5 litre version. It had moré chrome fittings, á buttoned, cushioned séat and two-toné paint. In 1996, further updates included a butterknife sidestand and an optional sissy bar. Yamaha XV535DX: This model replaced both the standard and S models in 1998. Similar spec but with chrome plated engine casings and side stand.
